HBO has acquired the rights to a documentary on rock icon David Bowie, focusing on the last five years of his life. “David Bowie: The Last Five Years” features rarely seen Bowie interviews, archival footage and audio from the recording sessions for “The Next Day” and “Blackstar.”

“The film spotlights two critically acclaimed albums and the stage musical ‘Lazarus,’ offering new insights into his extraordinary creativity during the final five years of his life,” HBO said in today’s announcement.

“Blackstar,” Bowie’s final album, claimed five trophies at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, winning Best Rock Performance; Best Alternative Music Album; Best Recording Package; Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical; and Best Rock Song.

No date on when the documentary will air.
