iHeartMedia Veteran Spotlight: Christie James

Christie James is an amazing part of the iHeartMedia family as an on-air personality for San Francisco's iHeart80s @ 103.7 FM, but she's also a member of a much bigger – and more important – family: United States veterans.

Before she found the career of her dreams in radio, Christie served in the U.S. Navy for 8 years. After joining in 1998 and attending boot camp at Naval Station Great Lakes near Chicago, she worked her way up to the rank of Journalist Second Class (JO2).

Christie was stationed in Washington, D.C. as part of the Presidential Ceremonial Honor Guard under former President Bill Clinton and served as a tour guide at the Pentagon. During that time, she also performed more than 100 funeral services at Arlington National Cemetery.

"Without the United States Navy, I don't know if I would have ever been a part of the iHeartMedia family," she said. Christie made the transition from television news to radio when she took over on-air for someone on leave and has been in radio ever since.

The best way to honor vets on Veterans Day? "Just saying 'thank you' sometimes is enough," Christie says.

You can catch Christie James on San Francisco's iHeart80s @ 103.7 FM as the executive producer for The Martha Quinn Show in the mornings, on-air mid-days from 10am-3pm, and nights on Pride Radio.
