Muni Metro To Shut Down Service Due To COVID-19 Pandemic

Starting Monday, March 30th, San Francisco's light rail and subway system will down to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Muni Metro subway stations will be closed except ones downtown so commuters can still take BART to work. Muni buses will also take over routes for the light rail so people will still be able to commute to work and get through the city for essential errands.

"Closing the Muni Metro underground system will allow us to redirect custodial resources to other, higher-use facilities and minimizes risk to our station agents. Based on our ridership data and observations, we do not expect these changes to impact the ability of our riders and operators to maintain social distance," said the SFMTA in a statement.
