These Are the Bay Area Cities Where You Can Text 911

Milpitas just made it easier to reach out for help in the event of an emergency. If calling 911 isn’t an option, you can now text emergency dispatchers to let them know you need help. In order for the service to work, you must have a phone that can send and receive text messages. Police advise to keep the messages short and sweet and to the point, skip the emojis and text slang. Let them know where you are and your emergency.

Bay Area residents in San Mateo County can text 911. People can also text the Santa Clara police, Sunnyvale's Department of Public Safety, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol Golden Gate Division.
