Berkeley Farms will be closing at the end of April. The Hayward institution was founded in 1910. As reported by KTVU the company that owns Berkeley Farms, Dallas-based Dean Foods, had hoped "to sell the business in order for daily operations and employment to continue there," but there has been a lack of interest. Unfortunately that means the workers there will be laid off. Dean Foods was already struggling before the coronavirus pandemic began and had already filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year. Alternative milk options have hit the dairy industry pretty hard financially.
