Governor Gavin Newsom is putting his foot down when it comes to face coverings in the midst of the current pandemic. On Thursday during his daily press conference Governor Newsom issued a statewide order mandating that everyone wear a face covering when they are out in a high-risk public setting. This means that a mask must be worn when shopping, taking public transit or seeking medical care.
There was no information about how the rule will be enforced or if folks who violate the order will be subject to citations or other types of penalties. “Simply put, we are seeing too many people with faces uncovered — putting at risk the real progress we have made in fighting the disease,” Newsom said in a statement.
The CDC recommends that if you are out in public you should wear a face covering, continue to wash your hands, don't touch your face and of course try and maintain a safe social distance from others at all times.
