Ellen Degeneres is coming clean about the rumors of her bad behavior behind the scenes of her daytime talk show. Over the summer dozens of current and former employees came forward for a BuzzFeed News expose describing the toxic environment that her show’s executive producers engaged. Rumors of sexual misconduct and harassment were at the forefront of the complaints.
DeGeneres said she was “grateful” for the people who work for her, which she said has grown to as many as 270. “All I want is for every single one of them to be happy,” she said “and to be proud to work here.” Ellen also said she hopes her show can be a welcome escape from all the challenges society is now facing. “This has been a horrible summer for people all around the world,” DeGeneres said. “People are losing their jobs, people are losing loved ones to a pandemic, people are losing their homes and lives in raging fires that are going on. There’s blatant racial injustice all around us. “So my hope is that we can still be a place of happiness and joy,I still want to be the one hour a day that people can go to escape and laugh. I want to continue to help all the people that we help every day and I’m committed to making this the best season that we have ever had.”
