John Mellencamp Honored With Woody Guthrie Prize

As if he needs it, John Mellencamp has another trophy to add to his mantle. Next month, Mellencamp will be honored with the Woody Guthrie Prize, named for the famous folk singer known for "This Land Is Your Land". The prize is given to an artist who exemplifies Guthrie's spirit "by speaking for the less fortunate and serving as a positive force for social change". It's been quite a year for Mellencamp - last month he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and got to exhibit his paintings at ACA galleries in New York.  Oh yeah, and he still managed to tour across North America.
