80s Songs That Our Cover Songs Mixtape

I play a mixtape every day at 7:30 am & 5:30 pm. It's 3 songs in a row that share a common theme. These are mixtapes that YOU sent in.

Michael from  East Palo Alto sent me these 3 80s songs that are cover songs. Meaning the versions we know aren't the first ones that were out there.

In 1970 Dutch band Shocking Blue had an international smash hit with Venus! Bananarama took it to the top of the charts again in 1986! Check out Shocking Blue’s version below.

Umberto Tozzi’s original 1979 version of Gloria, was covered by Laura Branigan in 1982

T. Rex originally recorded the glam band classic 'Bang A Gong (Get It On)' in 1971. 14 years later when John and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran created their side band The Power Station, being huge T. Rex fans they took their turn at this rock fave with Robert Palmer on vocals. (Fun fact: T. Rex singer Marc Bolan’s girlfriend was Gloria Jones the original singer of another famous 80s song that’s a cover, Tainted Love!)
