Bootsy Collins Is Hanging Up His Bass

All good things must come to an end it seems. If fans want to see Bootsy Collins live on stage, they're going to have to watch old music videos.  The Parliament-Funkadelic bassist posted to Facebook that he's packing it in, writing, "time has come for me to tell all our Funkateers that I will not be playing bass in concert anymore." Unfortunately, the decision wasn't up to the Hall of Famer, but instead made by his doctors. Collins says he will still keep active, adding that he'll "continue to funk from the studio," and will coach future musicians.

In addition to contributing his funky bass wizardry to James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic and Bootsy’s Rubber Band, one of my favorite projects Bootsy Collins worked on was a collaboration with Sex Pistols famed manager Malcolm McLaren, the Waltz Darling album featuring Bootsy’s Bootzilla Orchestra.

Check out this track with guitar legend Jeff Beck, you’ll hear the chief Funkateer at his best!
