Garth Brooks Honors Tom Petty During Show In Florida

Gainesville, Florida has never been shy about honoring its favorite son, Tom Petty. The late singer-guitarist was given the key to the city in 2006; Petty's song "I Won't Back Down" is a staple at Florida Gators football games; and there's even a park named after the Gainesville native.

None of this got by Garth Brooks, who paid tribute to Petty during his concert stop Saturday at Ben Hill Stadium, the home of the Gators. First, the country legend unveiled a rocking version of "Refugee." Then he surprised fans by welcoming wife Trisha Yearwood onto the stage to join him in performing "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," which Petty originally sang with Stevie Nicks. Finally, Brooks brought down the house with a song that's been heard countless times at the stadium: "I Won't Back Down."

"They say they haven’t had a concert here in over 20 years," Brooks told the enthusiastic crowd. "Well, I’m gonna tell everyone this is the place to come play right here"
