In what will likely be seen as good news by hundreds of thousands of veggie-hating children, Dole has announced a recall of baby spinach over potential salmonella contamination.
Although no illnesses have been reported, the company says a random sample of baby spinach tested positive for salmonella, prompting a voluntary recall. The spinach the sample came from has been distributed in six-ounce bags labeled "Dole Baby Spinach," Dole reports. It's been shipped to stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.
More than 1.2 million U.S. residents fall victim to salmonella every year, according to the CDC.
