Wellness Shot: Food Safety During A Power Shutoff

Has your house been hit by the power outages? Are you wondering how long you can keep your food in the fridge until it goes bad?

Refrigerators will generally will keep your food cold for about 4 hours if it's unopened. A full freezer will keep its temperature for about 2 days but only 24 hours if it's half full but only if the door stays closed. Once the power comes back, any perishable food items like animal products that was not kept cold could make you sick even if it's thoroughly cooked. You always want to throw out food in cardboard containers too like juice boxes.

When in doubt, throw it out!!
