Richard Sherman's fan base just grew. The San Francisco 49er's cornerback learned via Twitter and a local Fox News affiliate that a Compton, California pop warner football team was trying to raise money for their trip to the National Youth Championship in Florida.
They had only raised $700 of their $15,000 goal but that changed after Sherman donated $5,000 tweeting, "I respect good football but I respect the 3.1 gpa more. Establishing good habits young. I would like to help." The teams requires their players maintain good grades.
Oakland Raiders defensive back Keisean Nixon also contributed $2,000 and as of Monday after noon more than $23,000 has been raised.
