Wellness Shot: How To Keep Calm In A Storm

What do you do for yourself if you get stressed out? Here’s a calming technique from Buddhist monk and mindfulness educator Thich Nhat Hanh.

If you get caught up in worries and fear, Thich Nhat Hanh recommends to jog yourself out of that stress cycle, “Look deeply straight in front of you at what is wonderful in the present moment.”

You can do this any time, anywhere. You can encourage your kids to take a moment and see what is “wonderful in the present moment.” I find reminding myself to take a breath and observe what is good right now, can be strong enough to pull me out of an emotional cyclone. That calm might last only for a second but I keep guiding myself to back to it.

I highly recommend this book by Thich Nhat Hanh, FEAR: Essential Wisdom For Getting Through The Storm. It’s filled with calming quotes and mindfulness guidance!
