The Empire State Building on Monday lit up the New York sky with red and white flashing lights, making the top of the infamous structure look like the pulsating beacon of an ambulance.
The similarity to the emergency vehicle was no coincidence; the owners of the iconic building had the lights installed to pay tribute to front line medical workers who have been battling the coronavirus.
For the tribute's debut, the pulsating lights were synced to Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind," which was broadcast on a local radio station at 9 p.m. EST. The tribute will remain in place through the end of April, Empire State Building officials say.
