Lynyrd Skynyrd Biopic Set For June 30 Release

The tragic tale of Lynyrd Skynyrd will soon be coming to DVD, Blu-ray and on-demand services.

"Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash" promises to tell the story of the original line-up's demise through the eyes of drummer Artimus Pyle, who survived the 1977 crash. "This film's story -- my story -- is not just about the plane crash, but also about my personal relationship with the genius that was Ronnie Van Zant, whom I loved like a brother and still miss to this day," Pyle says.

The movie is set to drop June 30th in spite of the objections of Lynyrd Skynyrd's current lineup, which at one point filed a lawsuit in an attempt to shut down production. Although the suit was eventually overturned, the band succeeded in convincing a judge to ban the use of their original music in the feature. A soundtrack featuring songs written for the movie is expected to be released the same day.
