Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade gave a behind-the-scenes look at the months leading up to the birth of their "miracle baby" Kaavia James Union Wade.

On Monday (December 10), the 36-year-old basketball player and the 46-year-old actress shared an Instagram TV video that showed the emotional journey to their one-month-old daughter's birth, detailing everything from how they choose to go the surrogacy route to the events leading up to their surrogate’s C-section to the exact moment their surrogate gave birth to their baby girl.

"Every family is unique. How each family is created & comes together is special. Kaavia James Union Wade journey into our arms was long & at times brutal. There were heartbreaks that nearly broke us and streams of tears that turned into raging rivers. And then came @KaaviaJames," Gabrielle captioned a promo clip of the video. "This is our birth journey. Thank you for all the love, support and understanding and all the people who held us up when we lost hope. Watch it with love. Watch it with hope."

In the shortened clip of the eight-minute video, shared to the Breaking In star's Instagram, Gabrielle also opened about her fertility struggles, admitting that she did not struggle to get pregnant but rather carry a baby as she suffered from "eight or nine" miscarriages. She later revealed that she was diagnosed with adenomyosis, which is what led her and Dwyane to decide to go the surrogacy route.

"We just decided as a family that the best and safest and probably our most successful route was a [gestational carrier]," Gabrielle said, explaining that Kaavia shares no genetic ties to the woman who carried her. Dwyane later added, "People kind of get this perception that, especially someone who is an actress or celebrities, they get a surrogate because they’re lazy. Because they don’t want to carry it or because they didn’t want to mess their bodies up. But for us, it got to the point where it was dangerous. It was like, I married you, I choose you first. There’s no us, without you. And that was the reason why we looked into the next best option which was to bring our joy into the world."

Later in the video, Gabrielle says, "We will be in the room when our child comes into the world," before a clip shows Kaavia being pulled out of the surrogate’s womb in the delivery room.

Dwyane and Gabrielle welcomed their first child together on November 7.

The first-time mom announced the news on Instagram a day later, captioning a series of photos of her holding her newborn daughter alongside her husband at the hospital: "We are sleepless and delirious but so excited to share that our miracle baby arrived last night via surrogate and 11/7 will forever be etched in our hearts as the most loveliest of all the lovely days. Welcome to the party sweet girl!" Her caption also included the lyrics to the chorus of "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers

Kaavia is Gabrielle's first child and Dwyane's fourth. The baby girl joins half-brothers Zaire, Zavier, and Zion. Dwyane also has custody of his nephew Dahveon.
