Why Joanna & Chip Gaines Had To Move Christmas Tree Into Their Bedroom

While family traditions are often the best part of the holidays, sometimes things have to change. Joanna Gaines and Chip Gaines learned that this year after welcoming their fifth child together this past June. For years, Joanna and Chip, along with their kids, would decorate their Christmas tree in the family den. After the arrival of baby Crew, however, the Gaines family turned the den into a new nursey. As Christmas got closer and closer, the Gaines family had to figure out where to put their tree this year.

"I thought about every possible room it could go in, and the only place where there was an open spot was the master bedroom," Joanna explained on her Magnolia blog. "In years past, I would have never thought to put a Christmas tree this adorned in my bedroom, but given the circumstances, it played out just the way it was supposed to."

"This year, I wanted to be intentional about embracing this transition of spaces for our family, which made our master bedroom the perfect spot to place our family tree. Plus, there’s nothing quite like falling asleep to a lit Christmas tree every night," she continued. Since bringing home Crew six months ago, the master bedroom "has become a natural gathering place for our entire family."

Joanna even admits she worried her older kids, Drake, Emmie Kay, Ella Rose, and Duke, would be upset about the break from tradition. Luckily, though, "they all said they love it just the way it turned out. She gives credit to her youngest son, writing she loves "how Crew has given us all fresh eyes to see the wonder in our yearly traditions."

It sounds like the Gaines family is on track to have a picture-perfect Christmas this year...even if their traditions had to change.
